The Lord's great latter-day work is to prepare the world for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and to gather the twelve tribes of Israel from the four corners of the earth. No small task.
The Lord encourages His covenant people to be strong and capable in spirit, mind, and body. A spirit, mind, and body that is strong and capable can participate more fully in His great and marvelous work.
The Word of Wisdom, found in the Doctrine and Covenants, promises that if we live the Lord's law of health, we will run and not be weary and walk and not faint, D&C 89:20.
The promise to 'run and not be weary' and the added promise of 'strength' is found in the Old Testament. Isaiah 40:31 says, But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary and walk and not faint. See Isaiah 40:28-31
These promises will be ours if we study, ponder, and obey the Lord's law of health, sacrifice our food appetites, addictions, and passions to the Lord's will, and allow the Holy Spirit to be our guide.
